I seem to have not received (like satya) most of the email regarding this
controversy but anyways,

I agree too and to make the above statement unambigous.
"He has a right to register linux.org.in with or without being
in any way related to ILUG-BOM or LI(or whatever that is which
suddenly decides it's the rightful owner of a domain)."

Oh come on, at worst it's cybersquatting, perfectly legal.
Irritating sometimes but mostly because you didn't get
there first.

LI could have called it linux-india.org.in and there
would be no issue.
Mr. Hinge has as much claim to it as LI as far as NCST
rules go. By virtue of being the first person with the
brain wave, Mr. Hinge gets to be the owner.

Why should NCST care, NCST has a clear policy of allowing
an unregistered organisation to register whatever domain it
feels fit for Rs. 1,500 under .org.in.
Simple, unambigous.
What part of the above does LI not understand?
Since when has ILUG-BOM become the authority for making
rules for Registrars to follow?

They are? :>
Why should ILUG-BOM have anything to do with it?

I wonder what would have happened if LI had made a polite request
to Mr. Hinge to donate them the domain instead of their threatening
posture. I seem to remember him offering it to ILUG-BOM on the
mailing list. Try searching the archives if they exist.
