Why not use SVGA with framebuffer mode? Check out the framebuffer HOWTO
and PCQ's March article. Or use SVGA instead directly.

What was the file available as? a *.tar, a *.tar.gz? Untar the file(s)
into a directory and run make. Read the install instructions first,
they should be in a file called README or INSTALL. Or post the URL
of the code online, so we can have a look at it.
