You can't stop windows from over-writing LILO during a reinstall. Two good
options are to create a boot floppy for linux or to setup loadlin in order
to boot into linux from pure dos. Once the windows reinstall is complete,
boot into linux and run the command "LILO" as root. This will install LILO
back on the MBR of the hard-disk.
One other method is to boot from the linux installation CD and enter "linux
rescue" at the first prompt. Then with a little playing around, you can get
LILO back on to the MBR; but be sure to read the installation manual before
doing that!
