Netscape would be more appealing than lynx, of course. ;-) Try netscape-6 too.

Mount most of the filesystems read-only. If you have a good amount of RAM, create
some ramdisks and use them for /tmp or /var (anyways, they are not that important ..
you can live with fscking them manually or, if need be, re-create ext2 once in a
while).

Basically, let /, /etc, /boot, /usr, /lib, /bin, /sbin be safe.
(Mostly, etc, boot, bin, lib will be on / partition, as they do no change often - 
rarely
do /etc and /boot (for kernel) change).

This way, you can safely survive power cuts. :)
