Was at Denver airport recently. They have these small email kiosks set up
by go 2 net. When you sign up with go 2 net (free registration - anonymous
ok) you get access to your pop account (via their web interface) and the
rest of the web via their browser.

One of the first few things I noticed (from the look and feel of the system)
was that it was some unix running X. I'm guessing it was most likely linux,
or freeBSD, because otherwise they could not offer free (paid by
advertising) service.

The only app available on screen was a browser - full screen, not too good
java and javascript support, but had everything else. Looked like something
based on the gecko engine, and it had its own skins that allowed you to
navidate go2net services.

I did not have too much time to check out the entire system though. If any
of you are around the area, go check it out. Anyone can walk into the
airport. You only cannot get onto a plane without a boarding pass.

On a slightly related note (this is a hacker's delight), I was flying over
the colorado river (I think), and most of it is dry, but the patterns carved
out on the land, which are now covered in trees form what closely resembles
a Mandelbrot set. This is the first time ever that I have seen fractal
nature in the earth's terrain.

Ciao,

Philip
