Mail from ILUG-BOM list (Non-Digest Mode)

This just started, and may go away on the next reboot.
Whenever I switch from X to console (Ctrl-Alt-Fn) I get a screen totally
blank except for the cursor, on all ttys. I blind-type 'consolechars -d'
and that restores everything.
What's happening?
