I think "Indian Operating System" is misleading. What I (and I'm sure
others on this list) would like is inclusion of India in the
    internationalisation (I18N) of Linux.

I don't know what the developers of Linux, the kernel, are doing about
internationalization, since I do not work on Linux myself. But it is
certainly reasonable to make Linux support Indian scripts.

As for the rest of the GNU/Linux system, the GNU Project definitely
wants to support Indian scripts. We already support some in GNU
Emacs, and we are moving in general to support unicode, which includes
many (all?) Indian scripts.

People who would like to help with internationalization of GNU/Linux,
whether they are LUGs or anyone else, should contact developers of the
GNU packages that need work.
