My delete key behaves like a backspace key in an xterm. This happens in
all types of xterms except rxvt (gnome, xterm, color xterm, kanji term
etc). There is no problem in shell mode, nor is there any problem in
applications running under X. It only happens in the xterm. Any pointers
on what I should do?

The actual function of the delete key seems to have been mapped onto the
^D key, but only if there is something to delete. If there isn't, then ^D
behaves like the normal EOF.
