Well no doubt you do not have the Library installed as the most plausible 
case. But the real question is as to how you were able to install the GNOME 
in the first place. If you used a tarred binary version then this all is 
perfectly understandable if you didn't then most probably you used the rpm 
version, in the latter case you must have used the --nodeps option. Well 
mail me how you did it then most probably I will have a sure shot way for 
you.
