I do not know why the killall command does not work on your system.  It
works on mine.  You could try man inetd.conf for full info.  You can
control all daemons by changing their status in the conf file (comment out
those you don't want) and doing a killall -HUP inetd

It has always worked for me, so I do not know why it shouldn't work for
you.
