Unix programmers, linux included, in general are highly paid in relation to
programmers on other operating systems. Forexample, system admins for
Unix/Linux get paid more than sys admins of NT/Netware. However unix
sysadmins are fewer in number.

Regarding earning money: paid support, marketing preinstalled and configured
linux boxes directly by the venders. This is the most neglected aspect of
linux approach in the country. I would like to discuss this issue in the
coming lug meeting, and what we can do in this regard. On thing that comes
to my mind is to organize workshops to PC assemblers in Bombay, educating
them in linux, installation, networking, and sys admin stuff. so that they
can get paid by the customers in turn. This in turn will slowly replace
other operating systems. I have already asked Prakash to get in touch with
some vender based organizations with whom we can collaborate and start
giving workshops. Thing about it and more thoughts in this directions are
welcome.
