Hello, all,

I received this in the mail today, and am forwarding it to the list. Could
anyone in LUG-Bom help this person out? I have cut some non-essential
portions in order conserve b/w. Please feel free to contact the
sender directly.

Kartik.

Dear Dr. Kartik Patel,

<cut>

I am interested in hiring someone to install SuSE 6.2 on a standalone
computer for my parents (who live in Bombay) and also possibly provide an
ongoing informal consultation service for miscellaneous help/questions my
parents may have. (I live in the US otherwise I would do all this myself).

If you already know you are not interested, read no further, but
please do send me an email saying so. Otherwise read on for more
details.

To start with we will want SuSE 6.3 installed on the hard disk, X-server
set up with KDE, two user accounts (for my mother and father) created,
modem and sound card enabled and working, PPP connection set up with ISP
(wvdial would probably be easiest), mail (sendmail, fetchmail, Pine), news
(slrn is good), web (Netscape, kfm) and fax (Hylafax/susefax looks good)
services as well. Also, some kind of automated backup system set up.
Possibly some kind of RAID implementation as well, but this is not so
important. Finally, it would be nice to have a firewall set up. I don't
know how much work this would be to set up, but people trying to break
into computers is a problem everywhere

Please let me know if the above seems like something you could do, and
give me an idea of what fees you would charge for such a service contract.

Finally, there a few questions which I would like to ask you
specifically with regard to computers in India.

After some consideration we have decided to buy the individual parts
of the computer separately, and have someone assemble them.

I was wondering if

a) You can tell me of a place/urls where people sell computer parts in
Bombay/India.
b) You could tell me of a reliable person/persons who can put together a
computer.
c) A good ISP suitable for home use.

A prompt reply would be appreciated.
                                       Sincerely, Faheem Mitha.
