If you need the CD of any distributions you may request the ILUG. People here are very generous to lend you the CD for couple of days or you may burn your personal copy for as low as 200 bucks.

Getting to this point, I was just recommended to install SuSe on my machine instead of Redhat which I currently have. What are the differences in all the various distributions, and where does a newbie start from.

Well, I dont know of many books since I am a newbie too. But one book has really got me interested. It is named: "A practical guide to Linux" by "Mark G Sobell".

 

It takes you through the system step by step. But all this after I had read the redhat documentation which came on the PcQuest CD.
