Delete the links from /etc/rc.d/rc5.d that reference the daemons that you
do not want started.
Alternately, if you have linuxconf,
goto
Control | Control service activity
and decide what you want started and what you don't.

I'm assuming you use gnome and enlightenment cause that's the only place
I've seen this problem. You have one background set for gnome and another
set for enlightenment. The enlightenment is what you see when it starts
up. The gnome is what you see immediately after and for the rest of the
session.
In your gnome config, click on background and select Disable background
selection.
All these things are off the top of my head, so may not be 100% correct.
