SuSE I do not think comes with the sndconfig tool. Suppose It can be installed
separately?

The simplest way
 ;-)... if it can be called that ,  is to edit modules.conf ( note the file
name).. conf.modules will work... but SuSE 6.3 prefers the former... aren't you
getting warning msgs. ? they are basically the same file... only the name is
different.

you will need to read the docs carefully... set the proper dmas, irqs ... etc.
If it isn't working ... change the settings & try again...
( trust U have woken up the card via isapnp.... if it is an isa card.)

TIP: do not restart the comp all the time... read the man pages on modprobe,
depmod & insmod.... 

I got my sound card (unlisted - AD1812) to work... albeit in 8 bit mode... so
take  heart... If mine can work... I guess most can some way or the other.
I have not even bothered to edit modules.conf... got it in a script file... run
it whenever I want sound .. 
why ? ... well.... just plain lazy.
