Yow! Dude, note that a large number of the people that we're expecting
to move to Linux in the coming years don't know and don't care how their
software works. It's their work they are bothered about.

Making this complicated is not going to get you anywhere on the
development cycle either. I'd like to contribute to GNOME. I have ideas
and the programming ability, but do not have the time to read up on how
Gtk+ works. There are those thousands of function calls to remember and
all those funny event names. I don't have the time for memorising them
and the documentation isn't very good either. I'm more interested in
designing my app.

So along comes glade and puts a friendly face on Gtk+. In five minutes I
have a GUI framework that would have taken me two weeks of full-time
learning otherwise. Is this good or bad?

sendmail is superbly flexible and just about as complicated to setup as
qmail. That's not the issue here. The security is. sendmail insists on
running as the root user all the time, depending upon the name of the
symlink to it to decide what function to perform. newaliases for
instance is a symlink to sendmail. This is horrifying because if an
administrator in a hurry does not carefully check everything, he could
leave open a serious security hole. It's for this and this alone that I
always replace sendmail with qmail on my servers. I can't speak for the
others.
