[ILUG-BOM] of ttfs and disgusting linux fonts

Personally i don't really find the linux fonts that bad. They seem to print better for some reason than the windows fonts. I've managed to get ttfs to work under linux by use of a software called xfstt. I think i've written about this but i'm not sure.. so here goes...   download xfstt from freshmeat.net and install from the rpm. Now you gotta make the default runlevel to 3. Do this by editing /etc/inittab file or by changing default runlevel thru linuxconf if you're on redhat. Other wise your gdm will hang. the fonts work everywhere including netscape and look good on screen, but try printing them, man do they suck. the PS fonts and Type 1 fonts print much better. You can get more ps and type 1 fonts from freshmeat.net   Why not bother with TTFs   Most of the hardcore linux community prefers pine (my brother likes to use lynx to netscape although i think this is a bit extreme) to netscape mail, kmail and other various e-mail clients. So you can't use ttf's in your html mail. since type 1 and ps fonts print better, you might as well type your documents in those. So the only place, you can use it is while browsing. As most of the websites that you come across, use pretty much standard fonts or your default browser font, it doesn't really make much of a differencen even there... so you might as well not your break your head on installing ttfs. You'll learn to live withouth ttf like i have.   Grover
