Some people seem to be overlooking the fact that the purpose of a Linux
Users' Group is to help people using Linux to interact, share experiences
and in the process, help each other as well as themselves. Agreed that
several members also use MS, even I do! But the point is that several
members *don't* use MS. The only factor that brings us on this group is the
common interest in the Linux OS and its immediate related topics (viz.
distros, GNU, the *nix platform, BSD, Open Source, hardware issues,
networking, PHP, ...)

You must understand that nobody is excluding MS here - there have been lots
of open discussion about MS-*nix comparisons, getting the two platforms to
work with each other (SaMBa, dual boot systems, file system access,
compatibility issues, etc) Its just that if someone asks a specifically
MS-related query (registry problems, Outlook/Office/IE problems, dll, etc)
they are bound to get a bad response - "GO ASK ON SOME DISCUSSION FORUM
DEDICATED FOR THIS PURPOSE!"

If you want a forum that is not "Linux to the exclusion of ..." this isn't
the place; go start a new discussion group that is "open for all computer
technologies".

I don't understand. Some people here have had their own experiences with
various platforms, they may even have studied the intricacies involved ...
if they make remarks based on that, its stupid for others to get hurt. The
earlier row had started with a few neutral comments about not talking about
MS here but somehow snowballed into a big mud fight over nothing! When I
say "not talking about MS", you must realise that even MS-bashing is not
allowed here; there are many instances of that in the archives. We are a
group *devoted to furthering the cause of Linux and related GNU/Open Source
project, nobody is interested in bringing down MS specifically.

When you talk about being hurt by comments over some company that doesn't
even really care about you, ever thought that it hurts *us* when you say
"linuxlings" instead of "linuxers"? In fact this is a lot more personal,
since it is a name that we chose to fondly call ourselves; we could easily
take that as a personal insult.

A slight regression, have you ever considered the fact that "Open Source"
isn't just a technology, its a *way of life* for people who choose to that
path? It is our way to declare our independence - the right to chose what
we want to use on our computers, and the freedom to contribute whatever
little we can, wherever we can. This is not fixed in favour of or against
any one company, it is the way an entire community of free-thinking people
decided to use the resources at hand. This is the priciple that has put
valuable tools into the hands of all those able people that were unable to
afford/bear the use of products that are pushed down the throats of people
by brand-owning companies with "AS IS" licenses.

Sameer.
