Don't know if this will work but suppose you boot into a live distro
that has the latest kernel support for NTFS and then use gparted utility
in it if available?


Solved.

Used a tool call Bootit NG. Worked like a charm.

Next step is to install a suitable distro. Any suggestions?

Its a HP Compaq v5000, Intel Centrino Duo, 1 gig RAM, pcmcia card
reader, WLAN, built in sound/video. Can any distro detect all of
these? I'm interested in RH/Fedora or Suse.
