my reply has little relevance to the topic, but I
would like to share this information.

It is approximately 7 minutes for the GNOME desktop to
load on my P4 248 MB (256 -8 Video Memory) using
Ubuntu 6.06 Live CD / and KDE on Kubuntu 6.06 Live Cd.
(right from *Boot from Cd...* till the final screen of
stability, where the mouse moves smoothly)
