Also sound seems to be the standard als100. So snd-intel8x0 or
snd-intel8x0m should work with snd-ac97.
Next set volume with alsamixer and test sound recording an playback
with aplayer.
I am getting login and logout music. I had already tinkered with
alsamxer. I am able to play the Example files, video as well as music
with reasonable quality. As mentioned earlier, voice recording playback
level is too low from the in-built mic. The only problem is that VCDs
and DVDs don't play with sound. Video is OK.
I had earlier tried the official method of installing win32 codecs and
libdvdcss in Kubuntu 6.06 for kaffeine but nothing had worked. In that
distro, VLC player too gave distorted sound. Now after successfully
using Gxine in my PC, I am using gxine and its own codecs for VCDs and
DVDs in the laptop but sound is absent.
Regards,
Rony.
