Actually, the stock kernel, 2.6.8, is VERY antedeluvian in every sense! So, you weren't wrong. It's just that I wanted to leave the system reasonably updated, so I compiled a new kernel and put it there. On a side note, to Debian users: compiling the kernel is a fun task. Please do read about the Debian way of compiling kernels and kernel-package, so that you can run the latest kernel with little effort on Sarge. But I daren't speak further, as the person in charge is a member of this list :-) [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~] apt-cache show kernel-package Package: kernel-package [snip] Maintainer: Manoj Srivastava <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> [snip] Kumar -- Kumar Appaiah, 462, Jamuna Hostel, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai - 600 036 -- http://mm.glug-bom.org/mailman/listinfo/linuxers
