Dear Rony,

Hi! :)

I've never tried it on a vista desktop, but i have had no issues with the
same on vista laptops that i've installed on. just remember, take a backup
of the MBR and Partition table via linux rescue mode first, if you want to
be extra careful.

I was worried about vista's file system not being recognized by grub. Anyway since you have dual booted into both, it should work. I will look up the linux rescue utility.

Also, if it's a new system, i suggest you try out a 64 bit
distro variant first, before you try a 32 bit variant. it'll give him a
noticeable performance boost, and i'm sure he will enjoy the
experience(remember to activate beryl and show him all the eye candy -- whip vista on his own *vista* system).

He is using a home edition with no Aero and his mobo is 955, so 32 bit with Pentium dual core 2.8 GHz. Right now I am planning on Kubuntu as his use is only documents and internet. I will give him a live demo of Sabayon linux that has berryl loaded.

If you have any issues, do feel free to
get in touch with me off-list, and i can pass on a 64 bit fedora copy, and
also help you with the install.

Thanks.
