Most probably, your installation is corrupted or file system shaky. I 
cannot recollect properly but RedHat/ Fedora CDs have repair utilities 
when booted over an existing installation. From your other distros, try 
doing an fsck and then mount the suspect partition and copy paste a 
fresh kernel and or image file from the CD over the existing ones.
