Apparently, some people have worked with Maya on Debian and Gentoo before. http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/5235 for more information. and http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/5235 Maya provides RPM packages for Red Hat based distributions. My OS of choice for you would be one of Debian or Ubuntu or UbuntuStudio. You can choose any of the abovementioned distributions and figure out for yourself.
