There's no /boot/grub since I did NOT install Gentoo's grub.There's only a
/boot with the following:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/media/recovered_disk/boot$ ls -l
total 8396
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root       1 2008-02-02 04:22 boot -> .
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5455004 2007-04-22 04:15
initramfs-genkernel-x86-2.6.19-gentoo-r5
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2137705 2007-04-22 04:13
kernel-genkernel-x86-2.6.19-gentoo-r5
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root  980149 2007-04-22 04:13
System.map-genkernel-x86-2.6.19-gentoo-r5
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/media/recovered_disk/boot$

Note that the permissions are with respect to Ubuntu,I'm not sure whether
they would be the same as in Gentoo.
