Genkernel looks for the default kernel configuration in the file /usr/share/genkernel/x86/kernel-config-2.6 Have a look at the Gentoo Handbook's Kernel Configuration page: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=7#doc_chap4 You might want to try a manual kernel configuration.
