Etch works without a problem in gui as well as console mode. Anyway, ui has nothing to do with networking. But using an adsl modem with a usb and ethernet connection simultaneously on two different comps with two different OSs is "innovative" ;-) and would require some testing. Ping an internet ip. note the time to first response. Ping the same with a name and note the time to first response. If the time is longer then your innovative setup is screwing DNS queries.
