[ILUG-BOM] No audio on Kubuntu with Acer Aspire One

Hi,
     I'm new to Linux and have recently purchased an Acer Aspire One and
loaded Kubuntu onto it. I find that I get no audio at all. Followed
instructions at http://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireOne . However, after
doing all the tweaks, found that it requires Alsa 1.0.17. Tried downloading
Alsa 1.0.17 and compiling it. However, not successful. Any suggestions
please? Thanking you in advance.
