Not always. When you do 'make install' as the last step of installation, most programs 
create files in /usr/local/*. E.g. the program binary may reside in /usr/local/bin and 
any shared libraries in /usr/local/lib. At least, they'll create a symlink in these 
places. So it's best to have a look around the /usr/local tree also.
