Mutt is anyday *much* faster than pine.
Pine is userfriendly for the "menu oriented" people.

mutt presents emails to you in threaded fashion ( configurable ),
and makes them nicely coloured. You have access to all the headers
by default.

Best of all, you can configure mutt to have pine's key bindings!
( look in the docs and/or examples directory ).
