I use mutt. I grabbed Suresh R.'s .muttrc from http://www.hserus.net
and use that.

Customize mutt :). Make it user friendly. The CLI isn't newbie friendly
either :)

Depends on how ou like it. I can personally use anything that works on
Linux/BSD. Am  editor/MUA/religion agnostic.

Not programming language agnostic though :)
