Actually, TOI was never interested in having an e-version of the newspaper. In fact, currently too, they are basically running it only because it is there. (These comments are based on discussions with my friends who work for toi and external analysts). They have no real interest in it. They could not find any way to make money from it and were disinclined to spend much time and money on it, except what is really necessary to keep things going. TOI was forced to start an online version of the newspaper because indian express did it in 1995. Both of them didnt know what they were doing, but did it so that they appear "Cool and Modern". Once it started, they couldnt remove it. In general, it was always better to read the newspaper, since it would have more information than the online version. Looks like, somewhere down the line, they learned the correct method.
