I am familiar with this error and I was able to solve this problem by entering correct monitor param's like Verticle and horizontal refresh rate. max resolution and color depth etc. You can edit XF86Config or XF86Config-4(if this file is present change this and ignore other) file and do these changes manually or you can run the configuration utility for x once again.
