Are you certain that /etc/X11/XF86Config is the file
it is probably this .. ( please check )
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4
if the file exists make changes in that file... because you are probably
using XFree86-4.x

Is the resolution changing ?
are the sizes of the fonts / icons the same when you change the resolution...
even with 800x600 and 640x480.
if the sizes are the same...
from your file i assume that you wish to use the "svga" driver...
which display card do you have ? ( and Vram ? )
are you certain that this driver is not being used instead??
