do u have /boot as a seperate partition?
if not then u need to specify the abs path like .... /boot/vmlinuz...... 
in ur grub.conf.
giving "/vmlinuz..." works if one has a seperate /boot partition. (check 
commented lines in grub.conf)

After lots of googling i havent been able to come to any correct result yet. I have already tried removing initrd from grub.conf and it still does not work.
