I don't want to sound like I am defending Red Hat, but the person that gave a presentation on Power Point / Windows XP IBM Notebook was from the UTI bank and not from Red Hat. The guys from Red Hat gave presentations on Open Office Impress. I did not attend the presentations given by Oracle and Intel... and if they used MS Windows / Power Point, I guess they are free to do so because they don't care about free software. > Those guys repeatedly claimed its all about freedom and choice. and > shamelessly showed powerpoint slides. In a way what they (Red Hat) are saying (choice/freedom) still holds... However, I guess they aren't referring to the same freedom's of Free Software / GNU GPL. They cannot impose their clients (UTI) to switch from MS Windows & Office to GNU/Linux with Open Office on the Desktop if they want to request them to give a presentation on the case study for their Red Hat / Oracle call centre CRM solution which is purely a server based solution. They have to offer freedom of choice to the end user which is to allow the end user to decide if he wants to use free or non-free software. Also the fact that Red Hat has a tie up with non-free software organizations like Oracle to deliver a solution jointly to the enterprise clearly means they do not give a damn about ethical issues of freedom in free software. Bottom line.. Red Hat is a commercial organization and will never care about ethics. They misuse the word freedom to their advantage. Creating and using free software is advantageous to their Business Model. They do not care about the freedom part about free software / GNU GPL. Commerce comes first ... Ethics comes second. That is why I have in the recent past tried to get people to switch to Debian... OK .. I guess I better stop rambling... :-) Bye...
