Hi All

This is to inform you all of the establishment of an Internet root
server cluster in India. This is an important step forward not only
for the country of India, but the Internet as a whole, as it will
improve the accessibility, availability, security and speed of the
Internet Domain Name System (including .IN and .INFO) within India and
the region.

This enhancement to infrastructure is a result of a plan undertaken by
the Government of India in 2004. A key step in that plan was the
January, 2005 upgrade of the .IN domain to Afilias' technology, a move
that coincided with: 1) the liberalization of the domain's policies to
open the domain to anyone; and 2) a reduction of the price to a
competitive level. The improvements in .IN enabled the domain to grow
from 6500 domains to over 125,000 registrations since January 2005.

As the registry services provider for the .IN registry, we must
congratulate India's Ministry of Communications and Information
Technology and the managers at NIXI in their pursuit of advancing the
state of technology in the country and in improving the reliability of
the Internet to users around the world.
