After reading the above and without neglecting your debian howtos, i recommend reading Alexander Solzhenitsyn "The Gulag Archipelago", "A day in the life of Ivan Denisovich", "Cancer Ward" and "First Circle" Actually reading one is enough to send you into a permanent depression (if it wasnt for the deadly black humour).
