I just wanted to point out that, in the scenario above, correctly implemented 
drivers and user mode applications should also track link state changes (link 
speed mostly, but other factors could affect latency) and update corrections 
accordingly. Drivers should probably be given a chance to update the correction 
before user-mode is notified or you’d end up with driver defaults overriding 
user-mode settings.
