A small clarification to my previous message. The above statement should be amended to read: when a linuxptp instance sends a 44 byte sync message using the layer-2 transport a linuxptp receiver instance will always receive a packet that is at least 46 bytes long containing the transmitted sync message (assuming this message goes on a wire).
