Hi,

I have a setup with one master node (# ptp4l -i eno1 -m -q -4 -H -E) where the
NIC is the i218-LM (rev 05) with the 3.2.6-k version of the e1000e driver
installed.

The server I am trying to synchronise to this master (# ptp4l -i eno1 -m -q -4
-H) is using the i217-LM (rev 04) with the 3.4.0.2 version of the e1000e driver
installed.

When synchronising the slave server to the master after boot, the
synchronisation process is flawless as seen in the output below. However, when
adding another server to the setup, which should take over the master function,
there appears a very high offset including a very high frequency adjustment
value.

When disconnecting the last connected device and letting the previous master
take over the master role again, the slave server will not synchronise anymore;
not even after killing the linuxptp processes and starting the synchronisation
all over again: the master offset keeps high but decreases within 20 minutes to
normal values, but the frequency adjustment value stays to the maximum of
-59999999..

I have no idea what I am doing wrong and why the servers won’t synchronise
anymore after adding a node to the network.. Please see the bold lines and my
comments in the output below.
