It's been a very long time since I did all of it but IIRC there were some route 
things and possibly /proc stuff that had to be done to get IPv6 multicast stuff 
to work correctly.  That being said, we are not using a standard linux 
distribution we are using linux built from scratch on an embedded system.

Hm, that never worked for me.  Is there a trick to it?

(I haven't ever needed IPv6 in practice)
