A back actor on the LAN can easily spoof your unicast GM soruce
address, so using unicast is does not mitigate that security risk.

If the best master is multicast, then why not use it?

It would be more development work to actively avoid multicast.  This
would require changes to the very core of the program.  It would not
be impossible, but for me there would need to be a strong motivation
to justify the effort.
