I have been trying to do the same so I can leave a power adapter pluged in at my desk but had no luck because of the weird adaptor for the new R4000s. Just a warning, whatever power adapter you get, make sure that the amount of current and voltage that it supplies is the same as that of the compaq or else you'll probably have to kiss your laptop good bye.
