I have an R3240. I bought three 12-cell batteries for it. I got two
on eBay and one from someplace on the web. I did not pay more than
$100 for any of them, including shipping. Two were genuine HP and the
third was some other label. No problems with any of them so far.
I can't find the 12 cell batteries cheaper than 88.50USD on the web.
It's the same laptop as your; if you could point me in the right
direction of cheap 12 cell batteries, that would be great.
I think $88 or so is about what I paid for each of them. I said "not
more than $100," but maybe I should have said "almost $100." If
you can get them for $88.50, I'd go for it. Be sure to check eBay,
because I think I got the two genuine HP ones there. The third is
made in China and I think I got it from another web site. It works
fine, but I notice it doesn't snap in quite perfectly. It's just about a
millimeter or two off, though. Not worth worrying about.
Also, the instructions that came with them said to charge them
fully, then use them until almost drained before recharging, and to
do it that way for the first half dozen recharges. Evidently that
"sets" the memory in the battery and makes it last longer or work
better or just be extra super or something. I'm just a linguistics
major. What do I know about batteries?
Thanks for the eBay suggestion, I just picked up a 12 cell for about 50
bucks (58 with shipping); I thought it was going to be some Chinese rip
off, but it was the official hp pack, with a 1 year warranty. Not at all
bad! I also picked up a xc1000 'docking' cord for about 25 bucks shipped
as well off of eBay (much cheaper than the damn docking station) - and
it gives you spdif, composite, svideo, stereo out, usb, and power. (I
found it VERY useful, which is why I'm even talking about it). The
biggest issue, is my laptops power connector started to slip off every
now and then - and since the docking cable has a power adapter, I don't
have to stress on the board one any more.
Once again, thanks =-) I found a reason to like eBay again.
