The flip side of battery use is heat generation.  Heat inside
notebooks is a big problem.  The notebook might not be designed to get
rid of the greater heat generated by such a disk.  I don't know how to
figure that out.

Even if it is, the fan would be running more -- potentially annoying.

Summary: somebody (other than me) should try this and report back :-)
