Hi there. Are you sure it happens when you mute the sound? I'm
running the x86_64 port of SuSE Linux 10.0 on a Compaq Presario R3000Z
notebook, and I, too, get music.raw files in my home directory. BUT, I
don't get them when I mute the sound, nor do they take up a lot of
space. (They are 0 bytes.)
I've noticed them before, but never paid much attention to them
until I saw your post. I've played around muting the sound via KMix,
the mini KDE mixer program (right-click on panel --> Add To Panel -->
Applet --> Sound Mixer) and pushing the R3000Z's mute button. (Since I
don't have linEAK running, that does nothing.)
If I figure out what causes the music.raw files to be created,
I'll report back. Sorry I couldn't help more.

P.S. Even though I'm running the x86_64 port, I just noticed the ALSA
package I am running is compiled for the i586. When I installed this
computer, I took the default configuration -- so that is what gets put
on the machine by default.
