Hi Vikas,

First of all there are some fundamental difference between free
software and open source software.  Free software may be closed and
source code maynot includeded while open source software bundled with
source code, freedom and transparency. Now what is the definition of
freedom in the field of software development?

First time this definition is coined by great MIT scientist and
classic hacker Richard M. Stallman a.k.a RMS by launching GNU (Gnu's
Not Unix) project in 1984
(http://gnu.org)

According to him, ``Free software'' is a matter of liberty, not price.
To understand the concept, you should think of ``free'' as in ``free
speech,'' not as in ``free beer.''

* The freedom to run the program, for any purpose.
* The freedom to study how the program works, and adapt it to your needs
* The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor
* The freedom to improve the program, and release your improvements to
the public, so that the whole community benefits.

Now let's discuss business model of open source.

Generally open source developers engage with some other companies.
They utilize their spare time to develop such nice piece of code to
show their capability.

Some freelance open source developer funded by blue-chip companies
e.g. IBM,HP,SUN,Redhat to support  great open source projects like
NFS, mysql,GFS,XEN etc.

Some OSS projects depend on donation by companies or individual.
All are open to discuss here in more elaborate way.
