Tell me, Isn't it true that: You can set up the vm so that it can only see the hard drive space that you have allocated for it? And as long as you don't move files from the mv to the host os, (as Manny said) then the vm won't be able to see the hard drive? So that if it can't see the hard drive, then it won't be able to make any changes to the hard drive. I realize that you also need to take into considerations any vulnerabilities of vmware. And if you have an appliance on a cd, as Manny said, then you could start it fresh each time, and if there was anything that got onto the vm, it would be gone. and you could save changes to the appliance, after you tweek it and add stuff, on a new cd from time to time. I suppose you might want to wipe that section of hard drive clean from time time.(the section allocated to the vm) with something liike dban.
